One of the perks of working for Paper House Productions is that I get to attend trade shows around the country (and now Canada!). During the Summer 2010 show circuit, I helped our reps at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago, only this time I took a day to do some sightseeing. And, why not scrap my wanderings using our very own 12x12 papers and cardstock stickers in our Chicago Collection?

I cut out part of each 12x12 paper (Chicago Map P-0280E, Chicago Collage P-0281E), leaving a top edge of 1" and trimmed about 1/4" off the bottom to allow for the top edge of the cardstock to show. Each photo is mounted on cardstock (Recollections). Stickles glitter glue adds the bling to the two "Chicago" cardstock stickers (STCX-0068E). Two Millennium Park images from our cardstock stickers fill in the center portion on the right-side page, and various chipboard banners and frames used for photo captions add an interesting touch (thanks, Shaena!).

Something I like to do with projects from my travels is to add pieces of brochures, maps, and other souvenirs that I collect on my trips. On these pages, I made a pocket from the same cardstock used to mount my photos. I decorated the pocket with a portion of the guide book map on which the hotel's concierge marked his recommended sights, then stuck my ticket stubs in the pocket. The Art Institute of Chicago's logo from their brochure cover, mounted on black cardstock, not only adds color and interest but covers up a part of the photo I didn't want to show!

Veronica down Arlington (NY) way sent us this double layout featuring her son's Lacrosse team. I love that she took time to cut around the top stick on the Lacrosse paper so it would show in front of the photo. That, along with the use of pop dots for the letters and assorted cardstock stickers, really adds a great 3-D effect.

Instructions:

Left Page

Used the Lacrosse paper for the background.
Used a 5 x 7 picture of the team and cut it to 7 X 4 1/2 and matted it on a 9 X 5 1/2 partial piece of paper from the Soccer Collage
I cut around the lacrosse sticks so all of the stick could be viewed and layered it partially over the picture.
I added the cones and words SCOOP, CRADLE and THROW from the cardstock stickers on left side of picture.
I had taken a picture of my grandson's shirt (front & back) and cut out the designs and placed them on the corners of the picture.

Right Page

Used the Distressed Grass paper for the background.
I matted all pictures on card stock and inked the edges with brown ink.
I used alpha stamps for the word UNDEFEATED and used scissors to cut around edges
I raised every other letter with foam dots.
Placed quote, helmet, sticks and shoes (raised w/3-D foam dots) on corner

Susanne in MA sent us a couple of page layouts featuring her son's team from this summer. I forgot to ask her if they won a lot of their games...
What a tribe, uh, team! Using Paper House Productions' Baseball 12x12 Paper and Baseball Chipboard pieces, Susanne shows off her son's team in sporting style!

Susanne showcases her son's team and the spirit of Baseball on this page, featuring Paper House Productions' Baseball Diamond 12x12 Paper and Baseball Chipboard pieces.

Trimming the 12x12 papers and layering cardstock (Bazzill) helped to create a very attractive border effect on each page.

Susanne also accented with printed and colored Tribe Team logos and a printed "Fresh Paint" sign framed with a squiggly border and enhanced with Tim Holtz Distress Ink "Tea Dye" color and a sponge dauber to coordinate with the sand on the field. On the second page, she captioned a photo with the "Play Ball" cardstock sticker from one of Paper House's Baseball Cardstock Sticker sheets. The sun on the first page was made with punches (EKSuccess; Sun, Circles)

Happy Anniversary, Wizard of Oz!

Today is the 71st Anniversary of the very first screening of the Wizard of Oz! To celebrate, we're sharing these great home decor canvases made with our Wizard of Oz themed scrapbooking products. We all remember watching this movie in our youth; there's something about the characters and the scenes that resonates within us all (even if you were scared to death of the flying monkeys, like I was!!)

To make these great pieces of art, you'll need:

• a 6x6" artists canvas
• 1 piece of Wizard of Oz scrapbooking paper (your choice of character)
• 1 Land of Oz cardstock sticker (STCX-0099)
• circle and scallop punches (we used Marvy's 2.5" scallop and 2" circle punches)
• some pop dots
• a strip of self-adhesive rhinestones
• a bit of yellow glitter glue (we like Ranger's Stickles)

Begin by trimming a six inch square area of your Wizard of Oz paper, in the corner where the character is primarily shown.
Using a glue stick, apply glue liberally to the canvas and center your square of paper on the canvas.
Trim a 1 x 6" strip from a darker area of the paper and adhere along the left edge of your canvas for contrast.
From the Land of Oz cardstock sticker, peel off the Yellow Brick Road border and place onto your canvas, overlapping where the dark strip meets the main paper.
At this point (if you like the distressed look) you can use sand paper or a sanding block to distress all the edges of your paper. This is the cool part, because you'll start to see the texture of the canvas come through the paper.
Using punches, punch a 2.5" scallop from a darker section of your leftover paper, and punch a 2" circle from a lighter area.
Adhere circles together using a glue stick, centering the smaller circle inside the larger scallop. Place one of the phrases from the cardstock sticker in the center of of your mounted circles, and glue to the canvas as shown in the image above.
Using pop dots, adhere the Wizard of Oz title and the Ruby Slippers stickers from the cardstock sticker, placing as shown. The pop dots give the piece great dimensionality!
Finally, place a strip of self-adhesive rhinestones below the phrase on your scalloped circles, and embellish the yellow swirls with a bit of Stickles.

These look great when displayed together, so be sure to make a few! Since we make papers for all the Wizard of Oz characters, you can pick your favorites!

It's CHOCOLATE DAY! Oh, yeah... it's Friday, too. It's another Fun Friday at Paper House Productions, and we're on our way to a major sugar high! And Mom, we're spoiling our lunch AND dinner!

Do you fondue? We do! We'll be enjoying a chocolate fondue with all kinds of dippers: marshmallows, cake, pretzels, fresh pineapple, strawberries and bananas. We have Rice Krispy Treats with a generous layer of chocolate, a bowl of Dove Chocolates, and chocolate cereals. The chocolate covered blueberries are courtesy of some co-workers who just vacayed in Maine.

Oh, these adorable night lights get my heart light shining! Sue in Indiana created these using Paper House Productions' Glitter Rub Ons and blew us away!

Sue coated the block with Modge Podge and covered it with tissue paper, working in sections (front, back, each side, top and bottom). The tissue paper can be applied in torn pieces, flat or wrinkled. Then the entire block gets another coat of Modge Podge. When that's dry, decorate with Rub Ons, apply 2-3 more coats of Modge Podge and it's done!

The hardest part of this project is waiting for the Modge Podge to dry so you can turn on the light! Simple, but gorgeous, and definitely unique! Thanks, Sue...we can't wait to see what you come up with next!

Fruity Friday at Paper House

A couple weeks ago, someone had the idea to do something different and fun on Fridays during the summer. We work hard all week, why not? So we all submitted ideas on slips of paper, and we randomly pick one on Mondays.

The first Friday, last week, was "Makeover Day". Guy in customer service came dressed in a suit and tie! I wish I'd gotten a picture!

Today was "Fruity Friday". I was planning to make a Carmen Miranda-type headdress with a fruit basket, but it just didn't come out right. So, I brought in the basket to decorate the table full of fruity goodies! Doesn't that fruit look real?

Mmmmmmmm....! Fresh fruit, fruit-flavored candies and lollipops, and a cherry pie! The note on the pie tells us that there is ice cream in the freezer to go with it! What breaks up a long Friday afternoon better than a sugar rush?

Are you ready for Summer??

I just read that today is National Picnic Day! How could I have NOT known this?? Well, I'll be having a picnic in a park tomorrow to celebrate Father's Day with the fam. Have a great weekend!

Ready or not, Summer is coming in THREE DAYS! Forget the science involved and get on with the bbq's, campfires, and S'Mores-making. Take a hike, go kayaking, or get soaked at a water park.

Wherever you go, whatever you do, do it safely!

You have the opportunity to learn from my mistakes with these tips:

- Remember the spf30 (for me it's closer to 80). Nothing kills the fun more than a nasty sunburn! I once got second-degree sunburn just before heading to Texas for a wedding in August. If you've ever been in Texas in August, you're covering your mouth and making the, "Oooooooowwwww" sound right now. Yeah.

- Definitely, no matter what, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT forget the ICE CREAM!! Yum!

Dear Old Dad...

If ever there was a Daddy's Girl, I'm it! When I was teeny-tiny, I could be found near Dad, watching him fix television sets, mowing the lawn, etc. We share the same sense of humor, interest in music, and love of dessert.

If I wore hats, I'd take mine off to Dads everywhere this weekend. I know I wouldn't be here today without mine LOL

What's your favorite memory of your Dad? I'm grateful that I can still make memories with my Dad. I loved during the summers of my youth when my dad would hook up the speakers outside, and we'd listen to the radio while my siblings and I ran around like maniacs in the yard. Good times!

What's your favorite saying about Dads? One of mine is, "Any man can be a father, but it takes a special man to be a Dad!"

In my humble opinion, refrigerators should be stocked with two things: food and magnets.

Lisa in Minnesota has been collecting Paper House's magnets for about 10 years, and she shared this photo with us recently.

Note how Lisa has taken to arranging magnets in fun and creative combinations, such as the Chef's Hat on the Statue of David, the King's Crown on Solid Gold Elvis' head, and the field of flowers surrounding Dorothy and her friends. Oh, and the US Flag and the Astronaut on top of the Earth!

Just Kickin' It!

I am the world's biggest sports non-fan, but I understand how people get, let's say "enthusiastic" about sports. I feel the same way about cute furry things!

It must be Soccer season, because I've heard commercials about World Cup, and I've seen signs posted around town that youth Soccer registration is now open. Paper House Productions has a BIG line of Soccer-themed scrapbooking products to scrap your World Cup parties (do people really have these?) or your child's Soccer games.

What makes a good time even better more than winning something?? The LOUIE awards (kind of like the Oscars, but for greeting cards, and gowns are optional), were held during the National Stationery Show last week.

Previously bragged and blogged about, Paper House Productions was nominated for FOUR of our extremely gorgeous and innovative Cut Out Cards.

This blogger was SURE that we'd sweep the LOUIE's and win for all four. So, what happened is that we won for one. I'm okay with that. Our winner is the Peace Sign Wreath Christmas Card!

So, I was talking with one of my co-workers yesterday, and the subject of our NEW glitter bookmarks came up. We share the same fave: Red-Eyed Tree Frogs. Now, this isn't yet available, but it will be soon.

Don't you love it? Who ever knew frogs could be so darn cute!?

To make a short story long, I said I realized I've been reading more since I started using Paper House bookmarks! They make me want to read! Of course, with some of my book selections lately, the bookmark has been the best part.

I love our magnetic bookmarks, too! With four to a package, they remind me of those photo strips we would get from the old photo booths at the mall. Remember those? Are you trying to guess my age? Paper House's "Woodstock" magnetic bookmarks are currently marking my progress through the pages...

So, this summer remember to use sunblock, and whatever books are on your summer reading list, don't forget the Paper House bookmarks!

Oh, so pretty!

Yes, I'm calling my own creations "oh, so pretty" for all our blog readers to see! You know when your creativity is blocked and you're just not feeling it? Well, this is what happened when the block got cracked open a bit recently.

I have a pantry closet full of paper of nearly all sizes and colors, so I put a few pieces to good use. The texture and color of the base cardstock reminds me of linen. I used scraps of white cardstock to stamp the butterfly/floral collage stamp ("Gentle Thoughts of You" by Stampin' Up!). I backed those with a scrap of pink cs on one card and yellow on the other. Then I embellished the butterfly in the stamp with Paper House Productions' Butterfly-Dream Glitter Rub Ons (RUBGL-0013E). The lovely accent on the side of the cards is one of the rubons on the Butterfly-Dream sheet, too! I think it makes a beautiful border accent!

I purposely left off any tag/greeting so that I could use these for any occasion. One of them went to my mom for her birthday - she has been expecting handmade cards from me on every occasion since I first started handcrafting them 20-something years ago!

Our friend Duane, down in Wappingers Falls, NY, made this lovely card for Mother's Day using Paper House's Butterfly Dream 12x12 Paper and our glamorously glittered Butterflies 3 and Daisy-Peace Glitter Rub Ons. The daisies just jump out at you - nice touch, Duane!

Here is how Duane worked her magic:
Materials needed:

1 sheet 8 1/2 x 11 cardstock - white
1 sheet Paper House Butterfly Dream 12x12 Paper (P-0376E)
Daisy-Peace Glitter Rub Ons (RUBGL-0011E)
Butterflies 3 Glitter Rub Ons (RUBGL-1002E)
Gold thread
Glue
Cut the 12x12 paper down to 8 1/2 x 11 and glue over white cardstock.
Embellish over flowers on the paper with Daisy rub ons.
Embellish over large butterfly on the paper with large butterfly glitter rub on.
Print (or stamp) message and cut to tag-size. Punch a hole in the end of the tag and thread with the gold thread; tie off in a loop and attach to the large butterfly, and glue down the tag.

The Greeting Card Association has annouced the finalists for the best greeting card and stationery products of the past year. Out of the thousands of cards and invitations published each year, 168 made it to the final round of the 22nd Annual International Greeting Card Awards competition, better known as the "LOUIEs". Paper House has four - count 'em - FOUR nominations:

Easter Egg Chicks Greeted Card

Chicken Soup Get Well Card

The awards are named after German lithographer Louis Prang, who is credited with the birth of the U.S. card industry in the 1870's.

Winners will be revealed during this year's LOUIE celebration on Monday, May 17th, 2010 in New York City. (Basically the Oscars for the card industry, without the gowns!) This coincides with the National Stationery show being held May 16th - May 19th at the Jacob Javits Center also in New York City.

Paper House has won several LOUIE Awards, most recently in 2007 for our insanely cute Row of Bunnies Card!

Winter is over! Paper House's Blog has been in hibernation, just like bears and other cute and furry animals.

Now we are back and will be updating our blog regularly for all of our Paper House devotees with product ideas, news, new product intros and anything else we can think of!

Since the Easter Bunny will be making his rounds soon, we would like to revisit a great project idea from last year by one of our creative crafters in the field, Sue Higgins of Indiana. Sue created this adorable (and functional) Easter decoration by covering a Cardboard Egg in our Easter paper and added grass and mini cut-outs to make a one of a kind Easter Basket. Most importantly, there is plenty of room in there for candy - Sue made sure of that! You can follow along with the instructions below to make this cute project.

Supplies:

P-0398E Easter Bunny Paper
DCM-0422 Duckling Mini Cut-Out
DCM-0421 Bunny Mini Cut-Out

Cardboard Egg
Popsicle Sticks
Modge Podge

Instructions:

Trace cardboard shape (front, sides, and top) onto the Easter Bunny Paper. Trim out and adhere to cardboard shape.
Generously apply one coat of Modge Podge to seal. Allow to dry.
Glue the Bunny & Duckling Mini Cut-Outs to popsicle sticks.
Fill as desired (you could include Easter grass, eggs, candy, etc.), nesting the Mini Cut-Out sticks among the Easter Basket fill.

Hi All! We're home from Summer CHA and getting back into the swing of things! We had a great show and loved seeing all of our retailers and friends there. Yes, it was *HOT* (no air-conditioning during set-up!?) but of course, it was well worth it. We introduced some great new Papers, Cardstock Stickers, and Glitter Rub-Ons, so check out our web site to see them all! Following tradition, we constructed our tradeshow booth entirely from reusable and recyclable materials. If you've ever seen our "Green Booth" in person, it's hard to believe it's completely made out of earth-friendly cardboard and reusable fixtures! Check out the pictures below to see for yourself!

We were also super-excited to premier our Card & Gift Programs to our scrapbooking & paper crafting customers. Paper House started out over 25 years ago as a greeting card company, and today we make an such enormous selection of cards, gifts, and scrapbooking products!

In the full page layout above, we mounted two of our favorite summer photos onto moss green cardstock before arranging them onto the Gone Fishin' Collage Paper (P-0403E). The title from the Gone Fishin' Cardstock Sticker, along with fish & sign stickers, gave us the perfect accents for this page, while the fishing pole border from the Cardstock fit great along the side of the page. We topped it all off with a few Mini Cut-Outs from the Collection for a quick and easy project that will help us remember this family fun forever!

National Stationery Show • 2009

We just wrapped up National Stationery Show in New York City and wow, was it great!! Along with meeting a lot of fantastic customers and spending time with our reps, we were glad to be there to showcase our new products and display programs.

As you may have seen, this year our big focus was to increase our Green Initiative by creating a booth that was constructed entirely of reusable and recyclable materials... and that's just what we did! All of the fixtures and the features in our booth were created with cardboard boxes and panels, put together with precision and care. Although we've been creating environmentally friendly booths at the CHA (Craft & Hobby Association) Trade Shows over the past two years, this was our first entirely Green Exhibit at the National Stationery Show.

If you're wondering how we came up with the idea and plans to make a booth from cardboard, it all starts with a small scale model on Art Director Tim Murray's desk. The model is discussed, reviewed and finalized before plans get underway for the real thing.

It's amazing to see how much the model ends up looking like the real booth! Check out the photos below to see what we mean!

Peggable fixtures were created by drilling holes in the cardboard panels and inserting display pegs. We were able to hang a great selection of magnets and stickers this way!

We created slat-wall fixtures on the inner walls of the booth by making cardboard slats for the display trays to sit in. Our "great wall of cards" makes such a dramatic impact and shows how visually impactful it is to see all of our cards merchandised together!

Summer Outdoor Living

Paper House's Camping and Outdoor Adventure Collections fit just about any camping or recreation trip, and our extensive line of U.S. Travel Destinations are the perfect accompaniment to family vacation scrapbooks!

The easy scrapbook layout shown above was made by layering our Outdoor Adventure Collage Paper (P-0372) and our Take A Hike Paper (P-0297) with a moss green cardstock and Pine Porch Paper. Simple photo mattes were made by inking the edges of cream cardstock and square of the leftover collage paper. The pictures were then secured using metallic eyelets on each corner.

We created a border across the middle of the page by gluing a section of Fallen Leaves Hand-Dyed Ribbon to a strip of brown cardstock. The trail marker and compass stickers from our Outdoor Adventure Cardstock Sticker made easy embellishments, and lifting them from the background using pop-dots created depth on the layout. Finally, the tree trunk border of the Cardstock Sticker eased the transition between the contrasting papers at the bottom, and the Outdoor Adventure Sign sticker provided a quick and easy title at the top!

It's 5 o'clock Somewhere!

Raise your glass for this great 12" layout, celebrating the "Perfect Brew." Made from our new Beer line, which debuted at CHA Winter and has been a big hit, this project is perfectly toast-worthy! The Beer Collage Paper (P-0374) makes a perfect, warm background and adds visual interest with all the different elements and blocks.

The beer bottles and glasses from the Cardstock Sticker (STCX-0109) were lined up along the bottom of the page, while the 12" bottle cap border creates a great separation between the photos and title. And the detail of the diecutting is amazing!

All the photos and the title were matted on deep brown, stout-colored cardstock, which were then distressed with sand paper. We also inked the edges to give the different elements an aged looked. So here's to a great, simple layout using just a few great Paper House products!

Happy, Hippity, Hoppity Easter!

It's almost that time again... Egg hunts, baby chicks, fuzzy rabbits: All the great things about Easter! And to help you celebrate the holiday, Paper House has a brand new Easter Theme! Complete with Papers, Cardstock Stickers, and Mini Cut-Outs, this spring colored collection will coordinate perfectly with your photos! And it's perfect for scrapbook pages, cards, or themed projects!

This week, we're sharing a darling Easter card we made using our Easter papers and embellished with the Cardstock Stickers. The Happy Easter greeting and the adorable chicks were stamped from the My Sentiment's Exactly! Happy Easter set (Y202). We also applied Ranger's Star Dust Stickles glitter over a few stickers and added some rhinestones to give it pizzazz.

We're also super lucky to be sharing this awesome project made by Sue Higgins of Indiana. Sue's been sending us some of her great crafts she made using Paper House products, and they're fantastic! For this adorable Easter decoration, Sue covered a Cardboard Egg in our paper and added grass and mini cut-outs to make the cutest-ever Easter Basket! Butterfly Make & Take Card

If you're looking for a quick and easy, any occasion card that's perfect for spring, this Butterfly Card we did at the Sue Gilman Show Make & Take Frenzy is it! Made from our new, dreamy butterfly line, you could use this card as a thank you note, birthday greeting, or just an inspired hello! Just follow along with the instructions below!

Supplies:

P-0376E Butterfly Dream Paper

STCX-0110E Butterflies Cardstock Sticker

1 piece of white cardstock

1 piece of pastel ribbon (green, pink, blue, yellow or cream work well)

6 rhinestones

pop dots

Instructions:

Trim white cardstock to 6.5 x 10" and fold in half to yeild a 5 x 6.5" card.
Trace the folded card onto the Butterfly Dream paper along the right hand side, so the word Hope will appear in the upper left hand corner when trimmed. Cut out and adhere to front of card.
Peel the 12" border from the Butterflies cardstock sticker and place along the left side of card. Trim off excess.
Attach the butterflies from the cardstock sticker by folding the wings upward along either side of the body. Stick the butterfly's body to the card and make sure it sticks well. Adjust the curl of the wings to your liking. Make sure to put a bit of baby powder on the back of each wing after the butterfly is stuck to the card to prevent the wings from sticking back down. Arrange five butterflies fluttering upward toward the top of the card.
Coat the back of the "Dream" title sticker from the cardstock with Baby Powder. Adhere to the bottom right corner of the card using pop-dots for a dimensional effect.
Add the tiny yellow cardstock butterfly to the end of the word "Dream."
Embellish the center of each butterfly with a clear rhinestone.
To finish, accent the card with a pastel ribbon tied around the hinge, knotted at the top.

When life gives you Spilled Paint . . .

. . . make a lake! Okay, not quite the old "When life gives you lemons adage," but we thought it appropriate for this recent creation in the world of Paper House!

One day (and we won't name names) the creator of "Lake Jo Ann" had been painting and had forgotten to close the gallon. The result: A light blue puddle across the middle of a dark grey rug. Well, try as they might, the stain would not come out... So the creative people here at Paper House came up with another ingenious solution. Why not turn this misfortune into a creative endeavor?

And thus was the beginning of Lake Jo Ann.

The people of Paper House rejoiced, and soon began decorating the newly found body of water with a variety of readily available desktop items. First a duck appeared. And then a few rocks and a pony.... And now, you see it as it lives today. A fully inhabited diorama, complete with a glass display case in the middle of the floor of the office.

So next time, when life gives you lemons we say, "Get Creative!" Break out of the box and try something new. Sometimes the little accidents are simply a way of testing your imagination and challenging your mind!

CHA Winter '09 Make & Take

Our CHA Make & Take was a blast this year! Thanks to all of you who helped to get the project prepared, taught at the show, and to our customers and friends with whom we had so much fun!

To celebrate the Chinese New Year, which began on January 26 (the year of the Ox), we made these adorable little favor boxes out of covered take-out containers. How appropriate!

To make, you will need:

P-0332 China Collage Paper

STCX-0084 China Cardstock Sticker

1 - 1/2 Pint Take-Out Container (available online or in craft stores)

Ribbon Scraps (Red, Black & Gold)

Favors! - we used customized fortune cookies

Instructions:

Begin by covering the take-out box with Paper House's China Collage Paper. To do so, you can cut 4 separate pieces and glue them onto each side, or two longer pieces to wrap around. Make sure to leave a cut-out for where the handle will be to allow it to move freely, or make slits in the paper around the handles and glue down firmly. If making multiple boxes to use as party favors, it's easy to create a template by unfolding one of your boxes, cutting and taping the appropriate sides together.
Wrap the border from the Cardstock Sticker around the bottom of the container, making sure to stay parallel with the bottom of the box. Decorate your favor box as desired with the other China Cardstock Stickers on the sheet.
Tie several scraps of ribbon around the handle of your favor box to add a bit of glitz and glam! We especially like the way the gold ribbon contrasts with the red and sepia tones of the project!

These take-out boxes make quick and easy favors for any event. Personalize your favors with any of our fun & unique themes to match the style of the party you're throwing!

We're so happy to be here in sunny Anaheim, California for the 2009 CHA Winter Convention! After a smooth booth set-up (including the construction of an 11" tall Paper House!), we've spent the past two days meeting our wonderful customers, showing off our latest and greatest creations, and sharing the cutest little make n' take! We're having a great time, and wanted to share the experience with you all!

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz

For all of you in Hudson Valley, we're sure you heard about the showing of Wizard of Oz on the big screen at the Ulster County Performing Arts Center. On Friday night, the Paper House crew could be found in the lobby of UPAC, selling all of our great OZ products to the fantastic fans of the classic that attended the show! Along with meeting a lot of great people (including the great-niece of Ray Bolger a.k.a. the Scarecrow!!) and entertaining the excited children that came, we were proud to offer our locally designed greeting cards, magnets, stickers, bookmarks and much more to the local crowd!

We're so glad to have the support of our community behind us in the products we make. It's always a pleasure to get out and interact with customers at a local level, and the Wizard of Oz show was such a great way to do it! A special Thank You to UPAC for letting us come and enjoy!

Happy New Year, everyone! We hope you had a wonderful and safe holiday, and are ringing in the new year with cheer! In honor of the classic & iconic New Year's Baby, we've decided to show you a quick and easy card that you can make using just a few products. Keeping a few extra baby projects on hand can be great when you find out the stork just delivered a bundle of joy!

Products used:

STCX-0065 Baby Boy Cardstock Stickers

DCCB-0003 Baby Boy Chipboard

1 piece of brown cardstock

1 piece of white ribbon

Instructions:

Trim brown cardstock to 4 x 11" and fold in half to yield a 4 x 5.5" card
Using the border on the Baby Boy Cardstock sticker, wrap it around the card about a 1/2" from the bottom and trim off excess.
Punch out the Sweet Baby Boy tag, the blue star, and the swirls from the baby boy chipboard. Centering the tag over the sticker border, adhere with your favorite adhesive. Glue the blue chipboard star onto the top left corner of the chipboard tag.
Place the onesie sticker in the upper center of the card. Using pop dots on the back of the baby bottle sticker, adhere to the front of the onesie as an embellishment.
Glue the chipboard swirls on either side of the onesie, facing in.
Finish of by tying a length of white ribbon around the fold of the card, and add glitter or bling if desired!

We love the modern look of the baby blue on the brown cardstock, but any coordinating color cardstock would work perfectly as a base. You could even make several different variations with different color bases, and save them away in your emergency card stash!

Craft + Tech = Cool!

Well up until last week, we could honestly say that we'd never crafted a web page before! So check it out: The convergence of crafting and technology! We created this "scrapped likeness" of the Paper House Blog as a promo to be included in our brand new 2009 Scrapbook Catalog (coming very, very soon!)

By layering grey, white & blue pieces of paper onto our square, white textured background, we created the browser window: complete with a chipboard scrollbar and bling-ed out close, min and max buttons! Then we printed out the blog header and tiny images of our papers for our "signature" house. We popped the hand-written side bars, header, and house up with pop dots and there you have it: the perfect union between geek and creativity!

Now we wonder, have you ever crafted anything tech-y like this? If so (and we know we can't be the only ones!), leave a comment here about what you made or even better, a link to your project!

Christmas Ornaments

Wow, we've been busy here at Paper House! Since Gretchen posed the challenge of creating holiday ornaments to us, everyone has been in the crafty spirit! Today we'd like to share this festive trio of ornaments, created for us by our wonderful Pat. As Pat shows us, Paper House mini cut-outs work great as an ornament base, being just the right size and already available in a number of holiday icons!

For the Red Ornament, Pat used stickers from our Christmas Cardstock Sticker (STCX-0048E) and applied them to the front of a Red Ornament Mini Cut-Out (DCM-0276B). We just love how she overlaid the holly stickers on top of each other, lifting the upper one off with a pop dot to give a bit of dimension! Silver, Gold and Xmas Red Stickle's by Ranger and a bit of ribbon complete the look. Pat also used mini cut-outs for gold and blue ornaments in the background. By gluing two cut-outs back to back, twice, and cutting a slit on each to attach them together, she made great three-dimensional ornaments quickly and easily!

Pat and the rest of us have been steadily filling our tree, so check back soon for more posts to highlight all of the other great ornaments and holiday decorations we're making!

Happy December, Everyone! We hope you all had a lovely Thanksgiving, shared with family and friends. For those of you who love snow, it fell last weekend across New York State! Now that High School Football season is nearing an end, this is a perfect time to use all the photos you've taken of your favorite teams' games! We just love using the Football paper as a background, edged with Distress Grass paper to add a little contrast. Since our team player is a super star, we trimmed the stars out of the Football Helmet paper to add a bit of detail, and accessorized the page with Cardstock & Twill football stickers and leftover chipboard pieces.

Sondra just shared with us the page she scrapped to commemorate the memorable and history-making U.S. Presidential election held last week. We love how she used the Freedom Flag paper as a backdrop for her page, and the chipboard frames and tags to journal each candidates' name. Fall Layout

It's that time of the year again! When all the leaves start falling from the trees, you're bound to get some great photos of the little ones playing and jumping in Autumn's giant piles! Here's a great layout we made of such a cute little guy having so much fun. The photographic Mini Cut-Out leaves scattered across the page look as though the wind just blew them down! For the title, we typed the word "Fall" on the computer and printed it onto a piece of scrapbook paper cut to 8.5 x 11", and then just trimmed the letters out with a craft knife.

So, our awesome designer/art-director Tim created this fabulous new blog header for us! Yay! (we know, that was a lot of adjectives :-P ) Thank you Tim, our new blog definitely deserved a much-needed spiff up! We hope to change our banner out seasonally and show you some more awesome digital work. Please feel free to leave us a comment and let us know what you think :)

School Days Tags

We're so lucky to have such talented people here at Paper House! Sondra, of our awesome sales team, made these fabulous tags this week and was nice enough to share them! These would be perfect attached to a lunch box or tucked into a backpack to remind your star student how much they're loved! We love how she added dimension using PhotoGems and pop dots under some of the Cardstock stickers! The ribbon at the top makes a great fancy accent, and you could even use glitter and rhinestones to bling these tags up even more!

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 2008

Just an update: Sunday, October 19th 2008, the Paper House team participated in their Third Annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in Albany NY. It was really cold out that day but the team trooped on! Thanks to contributions from our friends, families, and associates, we raised a total of over $1500.00 that Paper House has generously offered to match! This is our largest total yet, and we're so happy to be able to generate awareness and funds for such a great cause!

All Occasion "Discover" Card

If you're not quite sure how to use our travel products besides on themed pages or projects, well then here's a card for you! We've combined our great Explore paper with Canvas Quotes and Chipboard to create this neutral all-occasion card that proclaims, "Enjoy the Journey." Distressing and inks work great to give this card an aged and nostalgic feeling!

STFT-0011E Travel Adventure Canvas Quotes
DCCB-0010E Paris Chipboard

Black Cardstock
Gold Ribbon
Tim Holtz Distress Ink by Ranger (Tea Dye, Old Paper, and Black Soot)
Ranger's Gold Embossing Powder, Inkssentials Black Embossing Pen, and Heat Gun
Ranger's Diamond Stickle's Glitter

Instructions:

Trim black cardstock to 6.5 x 10" and fold in half to make card base (5 x 6.5" card).
Cut a piece of the Explore Paper just smaller than the front of the card. We used the lower left corner to include the word "Discover."
Distress the edges of the Explore piece and then tear in half horizontally at a slight angle. Ink all sides of both pieces using Tea Dye and Old Paper Distress Inks. Use the Black Soot ink only on the outside edges.
Adhere both pieces of your distressed Explore Paper to the front of your card, positioning so that both pieces overlap just slightly and you can see the torn edge clearly. You should have a slight black border around the card.
Ink the long travel Quote sticker from the Canvas Quotes and distress the edges. Mount to a scrap of black cardstock, trim around so there is a border, and adhere to the bottom center of the card, about 1/4" from the bottom.
Using the black Inkssentials embossing pen, color in the word "Discover" on the Explore Paper, pour on gold embossing powder and shake off excess. Heat with heat gun until powder melts and becomes shiny.
Ink the "Enjoy the Journey" sticker from the Travel Adventures canvas quotes and place in the upper right, between the corner and the swirly "D" of Discover.
Glue the Chipboard pieces in place, positioning the Eiffel Tower piece between the two twill stickers and using the Fleur-De-Lis' as accents. Use a bit of Ranger's Diamond Stickles on the lower Fleur-De-Lis if desired.
Tie a length of shimmery gold ribbon along the top hinge of the card, sit back, and admire! :)

Simple Swimming Layout

Now that schools in session and the kids have started their sports (and you've had a chance to take a bunch of photos!), put your pictures to use with an easy way to preserve those memories! Roni, the fantastic and creative manager of Paper House's Art Department, made this layout of her daughter's favorite sport! Another Spooky Halloween Card... Boo!

As promised, here's another fun and quick Halloween card to make! The contrasting textures of the Twill Stickers and the Chipboard pieces give this card lots of dimension. Perfect to send a little spook to your friends or family this season!

Supplies:
P-0179 Bats Paper
STFT-0018 Halloween Canvas Quotes
ST-2180EZ Pumpkins 2" StickyPix
STCX-0098 Trick or Treat Cardstock Sticker
RUB-0402 Cracked Up Rob-Ons - 1/2" - White

Black Cardstock
Orange Ribbon
Chipboard Brackets
(we used our extra purple brackets from DCCB-0010 Paris Chipboard)

Instructions:

Trim black cardstock to 5.5 x 11" and fold in half to make card base (5.5" square).
Cut a 5.5" square piece of the Bats Paper and mount the front of the card.
Remove the large, square pumpkins sticker from the Canvas Quotes sheet and fray the edges slightly with scissors or a craft knife. Adhere to the upper left of the card at a slight angle.
Adhere the long black cats sticker from the Canvas Quotes along the bottom of the card, about 1/4" from the bottom and centered.
Place the skull sticker from the Trick or Treat cardstock at the bottom right corner of the pumpkins twill.
Adhere chipboard brackets to either side of the black cats twill sticker, lining up the bottom of the chipboard piece to the bottom of the twill sticker.
Spell out BOOoo! with Cracked Up rub-ons to title your card, and add a Jack O' Lanterns sticker to the upper right corner of the card as an accent. Finish off by tying orange ribbon around the hinge of the card, tying extra bits of ribbon around the knot for a spooky touch!

Trick or Treat Card

We've got some fun projects coming up for you in the near future, and to start, here's a great fun Halloween card we made using just some cardstock and Paper House paper, stickers & mini cut-outs.

Supplies:
P-0176 Spider Shadow Paper
STCX-0098 Trick or Treat Cardstock Sticker
ST-2180EZ Pumpkins 2" StickyPix Sticker
DCM-0008 Jack O' Lantern Mini Cut-Out
DCM-0007 Witch's Hat Mini Cut-Out

1 Sheet of White Cardstock
Orange and Black Ribbon

Instructions:

Trim white cardstock to 6.5 x 10" and fold in half to make card base (5 x 6.5").
Mount a piece of the Spider Shadow paper to the front of the card (we used the bottom right corner to include the spider). Trim off excess.
Place the Ghost sticker from the cardstock in the middle of the card.
Glue the Witch's Hat mini cut-out to the top of the Jack O' Lantern mini cut-out. Adhere to left side of card with pop dots, overlapping the ghost slightly and letting a bit of the cut-outs hang over the edge of the card.
Mount the Trick or Treat title of the cardstock sticker onto orange cardstock and trim around the shape of the sticker with scissors or a craft knife. Adhere to the card above above the ghost sticker with pop dots, placing at a slight diagonal.
Stick the candy corn border of the cardstock sticker at a diagonal along the upper right corner of the card.
Create a row of Jack O' Lanterns across the bottom of the card using the Pumpkins 2" sticker.
Tie an orange ribbon around the card toward the bottom, running it underneath the Jack O' Lantern mini cut-out. Tie extra orange and black ribbon scraps around the knot to finish.

This is our 3rd annual walk for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, hosted by the American Cancer society. Four members of the PHP family, along with their family and friends will be walking on the Paper House Team this sunday in Albany, NY. We're busy working to raise donations for this great cause, and Paper House has generously offered to match all the funds we raise!
